Founded in 1725, the school was a voluntary controlled Grammar School before becoming independent in 1978. There are 580 day pupils between the ages of eleven and eighteen, drawn from a wide area. The Governors are committed to providing a high quality, cost effective education.
Well served by bus routes and within five minutes walk of Chertsey British Rail station and five minutes drive of the M25 and M3. There is a coach service, organised by parents, from the Camberley area and there are plans to establish coach services from other areas within this academic year.
Standing in twelve acres of gardens and playing fields, the school offers spacious accommodation with many new buildings added in the past six years, the most recent a Sixth Form Centre and an IT Centre.
A well qualified, graduate staff teaches a modern curriculum aiming to provide a broad, balanced education.
Most girls stay on in the Sixth Form, and nearly all Sixth Formers go on to degree courses; a number to Oxbridge. Language exchange visits are arranged to France, Germany and Spain.
Music, Art and Drama play an important part in school life. There is a strong instrumental and choral tradition with five choirs, orchestras, wind bands and many chamber ensembles. Musical and Dramatic productions are mounted annually.
Religious education is non-denominational. Pupils are expected to attend classes and a short act of worship in Assembly.
Careers advice is readily available with a careers programme incorporated into Years 9, 10, 11 and Sixth Form curricula. The school is a member of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation.
A wide variety of physical education activities is available, eg hockey, netball, tennis, badminton, trampolining, five-a-side football, fencing, aerobics, gymnastics. The Young Enterprise and Duke of Edinburgh's Award Schemes are extremely successful and well supported and there are numerous clubs and societies. The school has a long standing tradition of links with the local community.
